Artist Statement My favorite quote comes from Elizabeth Lesser: Our soul is a river of energy that animates who we are. And it is that energy that connects me to my work and holds the promise that through it I am able to express my sensuality. Much in the same way that Georgia O'Keefe found a simple flower awakened in her viewers a deep awareness of the emergence of life, I work to find simple undulating lines which evoke those feelings. I look for ways that one's individual dance can be sensitive to the whole and yet speak in the clearest possible voice. I spent many years as a ceramic artist, showing and selling work in the Willamette Valley and Portland. But in the early 90's I got caught up in the resurgence of quilting and was introduced to "art quilts". I was gob-smacked! Since I have always had a needle of some kind in my hand, this seemed a natural art medium for me. In my work with clay, I learned to carefully observe as my piece progressed and allow the metamorphosis toward something unique to take place. Although fabric's tactile properties are different, this art holds the same lessons for me. The power of textile art lies in the quilted line, and the depth and movement that it adds to my work. From a very early age, I have been strongly influenced by the sophistication, subtleties and simplicity of Japanese art. Whether my own designs are abstract or from nature, my goal is to express the life force which is contained. Resume Juried Exhibits:
